Area Code Updates

On December 8, 2008, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (Commission) issued a Final Decision that required the telecommunications industry to implement an all-services Overlay plan for the 715 NPA. With the new dialing plan, all local calls dialed within the 715 NPA will need to be dialed using a 10-digit pattern. Key dates are outlined below:

The Permissive Dialing Period for 10-digit local dialing will begin on October 17, 2009 at 12:01AM CST. During the Permissive Dialing Period, all local calls from the 715 NPA may still be dialed using 7 digits but subscribers are encouraged to dial 10 digits.

Mandatory Dialing Period will begin on July 17, 2010 at 12:01 AM CST. All local calls from the 715 NPA must be dialed as 10-digits. The 715/534 NPA overlay will not affect rates or local calling areas. No existing numbers will change; all numbers will retain their current NPA.

Starting August 14, 2010 at 12:01 AM CST, new telephone lines or services may be assigned numbers with the new 534 area code. Activation of the new 534 NPA will not result in any changes in Verizon rates or local calling areas.
