Area Code Updates
On April 24, 2008, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) issued an Order
that adopted a split plan for the 760 geographic area. With the split plan, all
customers in the area north of San Diego must change their area code to 442 and
all calls dialed to those customers must use the new area code. Key dates are outlined
below:
The Permissive Dialing Period will begin on November 8, 2008
at 12:01 AM (Pacific
Time). During the Permissive Dialing Period, calls to the new 442 geographic region
may still be dialed using the 760 area code, but subscribers are encouraged to dial
using the new 442 area code.
Mandatory Dialing Period will begin on May 16, 2009.
All calls to the new 442 area
code must be dialed with the new area code. The 760/442 Area Code Relief Plan will
not affect rates or local calling areas.
Following NXX codes in the 760 area code will be moving to the new 442 area code:
